High School Career
The former American football running back Le’Veon Bell had a stellar high school career that laid the groundwork for his later success. Bell competed in football, basketball, and track at Groveport Madison High School in Ohio. He showed early potential while playing running back for the Groveport Cruisers football team. Bell amassed 789 running yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore. In his junior year, Bell rushed for 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns, and in his senior year, Bell carried the ball 200 times for 1,333 yards and 21 scores.
As a senior, he was chosen for the first team of the Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division. Bell was involved in basketball as well, and as a junior, he was named to the second team of the OCC Ohio Division. He was a versatile athlete who also excelled in track and field. He ran the 100 and 200-meter sprints and put up one of the finest high jump displays in the state, clearing 6’8″ or 2.03 metres for a personal best.
Bell was rated as a two-star recruit by ESPN.com and ranked as the No. 211 running back in the US in 2010 despite his stellar high school career. His aim was to attend Ohio State, therefore he only received a few scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Marshall, and Eastern Michigan. Bell’s high school administrator, Donis Toler Jr., contacted Michigan State’s head coach Mark Dantonio because he felt Bell was under-recruited. After the football season ended, Dantonio sent his running back’s coach to observe Bell at his high school basketball game because he had never personally scouted the player.
When many players got into problems and Michigan State had open scholarships available with a need for running back, Bell eventually obtained a scholarship offer after concluding his senior football season. Early in 2010, Bell graduated from high school and enrolled at Michigan State for the spring semester.

Throughout the season, he turned up a number of strong performances, including a game against Iowa where he had 161 total offensive yards and a running score. Bell ended the season with 1,793 running yards, which placed second in the Big Ten, and had a career-high of 253 rushing yards against Eastern Michigan during his junior season. He was selected for the First Team All-Big Ten by the coaches, the media, Phil Steele, ESPN.com, and College Football News. Bell made the decision to forego his senior year and enter the 2013 NFL Draught after his junior year.
