One day, his coach took him bowling, and he had a very good grip and fast bowling in bowling style. His instructor then suggested him to bowl, and he has been practicing fast bowling ever since.
In the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Yash made his List “A” debut for Vidarbha against Punjab in Delhi on February 25, 2017. On November 28, 2018, Yash Thakur made his first-class debut for Vidarbha against Chhattisgarh in Raipur in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy.
On 21 February 2019, he made his Vidarbha T20 debut against Himachal in Surat. After performing admirably in domestic cricket, he was given the opportunity to play in the IPL (Indian Premier League). Yash was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2023 IPL Auction for Rs. 45 lakhs ahead of the 2023 Indian Premier League. On 3 April 2023, he made his IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings.
