After marrying fellow IAS officer Abhish Singh from the 2011 batch, who was working in the UP cadre, she had her cadre shifted to UP. She was given her first assignment as SDM in Greater Noida, where she encountered difficulties as a result of Mr. Bhati’s complaint.
The IAS Officers Association challenged her suspension, but it was overturned after Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s PMO intervened. She was released from her suspension on September 26, 2013. She was transferred to the Centre on deputation after serving the UP Government for a year, though.
On March 24, 2021, she returned from her Central assignment and was appointed Special Secretary in the Department of Medical Education by the Yogi Adityanath administration. Even still, it took the Yogi administration two years to assign her a district.

IAS Durga Shakti Nagpal was put on administrative leave by the UP government after she tore down a wall at a mosque that was still being built in Kadalpur, Greater Noida. The government filed a charge sheet against her, alleging that she lacked the right to tear down that wall and that her actions had strained relations within the community.
